About Us

We are a passionate team focused on helping our community hill thrive

The Friends of Mount Sima Society (FMSS) grew out of a group of dedicated individuals intent on opening the hill for the winter of 2013-2014. With this dream realized, the Board of Directors and many key volunteers continue to work toward creating a multi-year sustainable business plan for the hill.

Strategic Framework 2024-2027

2023-2024

Tom Luxemburger

President

Tom has sat on the Friends of Mt. Sima Society board for the past two years.  He and his family are avid skiers & mountain bikers and feel fortunate to have such a high-quality recreational product so close to home.  Tom also coaches with Freestyle Yukon and occasionally sneaks out to White Pass for some turns off the beaten path.

Keith Fickling

Vice President

Keith grew up skiing at a small local ski hill and is excited to continue that tradition with his family. As a father of two young skiers, he is passionate about ensuring the stability of Mt. Sima and supporting all of the great staff that make the mountain the special place that it is. Keith joined the board of Friends of Mount Sima in 2020.

Mike Evans

Treasurer
Sliding on snow has been a big part of my life since riding and working on Vancouver’s North shore ski hills. After a decade of backcountry snowboarding in the Haines pass; Mt Sima has become an integral part of our family and friend’s life as our kids grew up riding on the bunny hill. Our kid is now a passionate skier and my goal as a Board member is to ensure the services we provide are sustained for the next generation of families and young riders. As a professional Project Manager, I look forward to serving the Board and Operations to plan and pursue projects that continue to serve the needs of our community.

Lindsay Charron

Secretary
Lindsay grew up skiing in Quebec and Vermont and her love for the sport has always been a big part of her life. These days, she can be found most winter weekends at Mt. Sima with her family, taking advantage of all it offers. She is grateful to have an accessible and community-oriented ski resort in Whitehorse to help nurture her kids’ love of snow sports. Lindsay joined the Friends of Mt Sima Society board in 2023 and is excited to be part of this organization.

Eirik Sharp

Board Member
Eirik Sharp has worked in and around the ski industry for most of his life, as a competitive skier in his teens, a ski patroller in his twenties, and most recently as an avalanche forecaster and ACMG ski guide.  While most of his recent ski exploits have been in the backcountry, teaching his young daughter to ski has rekindled his love of chairlifts, corduroy, and hot chocolate.  Eirik joined the FMSS board in 2023 and is excited to be part of serving an organization that brings so much joy to the community.

Jordi Mikeli-Jones

Board Member
As a local business owner, long-time Yukoner, and a novice snowboarder who’s recently become obsessed with powder, I’m thrilled to join the team at FOMSS. With a deep passion for our community and a background in community development and private sector experience, I’m excited to bring fresh ideas and a collaborative spirit to support the growth and success of FOMSS. I can’t wait to contribute to building stronger connections and promoting our shared love for the outdoors.

Sean Kinmonth

Board Member

Sean grew up alpine ski racing in the Nancy Greene program. He stepped back from competitive ski racing as a teenager and began snowboarding, backcountry riding in the winter, and downhill mountain biking in the summer. He moved to the Yukon in 2017 and spends time at Mount Sima in the winter and summer. He had both of his kids on skis and bikes when they were two years old and is looking forward to contributing to the ongoing success of Sima.

Emily Chivers-Wilson

Board Member

Emily, who spent her childhood skiing and snowboarding on Vancouver Island, took a significant leap in January 2024 when she and her husband bought a home and business in Whitehorse sight unseen. As a newcomer to the town, a local business owner, and someone deeply passionate about boarding and outdoor activities, Emily is thrilled to immerse herself in the community and make a positive impact as a member of the FOMSS.
