Our Staff
SAM OETTLI
General Manager
Sam was born and raised in Whitehorse. Started riding at the mountain the day it opened. Started volunteering with the Canadian Ski Patrol in 2000. Patrol leader from 2005 to 2011. Worked also in maintenance and grooming during that time. Operations Manager from 2011 to 2020. He is proud to continue to serve the community as we continue to make Mt. Sima the fantastic destination ski hill it is. Looks forward to seeing you out on the slopes!
BRIANA MACKAY
Office Manager
Bri originally grew up in Montreal – learning to ski on the icy slopes of eastern hills around Quebec and Vermont. Winding up in the Yukon for the first time in 2006, she fell in love with the north – both winter and summer, and eventually joined the Sima team in the fall of 2020. While some might think she’s a glutton for punishment, she loves the balance of deep diving into spreadsheets, crunching numbers, along with a few laps of buttery tele turns whenever she can get out on the hill!JEN SPENCE
Guest Services Manager
Even though Jen is a Yukon transplant she's no newcomer to the long winters after living in a northern fly-in community with her pup Porter. You'll find the two wandering around in the woods and always out on new adventures. As a people person with a passion for the outdoors, she is ready to welcome everyone to Mount Sima!Seth Brown
Snow School Manager
Seth grew up in the big city (eww), and that's exactly why he decided to get as far away from it as he could! With a penchant for teams, tech, and organization Seth brings a diverse background in natural science, education, adventure tourism, interpretation, and childcare (phew) to Mount Sima's ever-growing Snow School. These days you can find Seth in his (very) little cabin, dog sledding with his four crazy pups.
Hannah Roth
Outdoor Operations Manager
Hannah was born and raised in Calgary, AB. Growing up, she always admired the mountains and what they offer... so it was no surprise when she moved to the Kootenays for post-secondary. Since then, she's furthered her Ski Industry career in lift operations, lift maintenance, snowmaking, and grooming! When she's not skiing or at work, she enjoys biking, skating, coffee drinking, and travelling. Needless to say, she is excited to see what's next in Whitehorse!
KIRSTIE SIMPSON
Head of Ski Patrol and Mountain Safety
Kirstie has been a volunteer patroller with the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) since Mount Sima opened. She took on management of the Mount Sima ski patrol staff in 2019 and works in tandem with the CSP alpine patrol leader. All patrollers at Mount Sima are trained to the same exacting first aid and rescue standards and work as a cohesive team on all days the hill is open to the public.
Kipper
Avalanche/Search and Rescue dog
K9 search and rescue and avalanche dog (in training) Kipper joined the Mount Sima team two years ago. He is a wilderness search-validated dog and will be in training as an avalanche dog this winter. He is on the hill most days with his handler, a patrol team member.KRISTINA YOUNG
Marketing Coordinator
Originally moving to the Yukon for dog sled guiding, she joined the Sima family her first summer there in 2014. Even though she's worked other jobs over the years, she just couldn't keep away from Mt Sima. Her two passions, the outdoor industry and graphic design, come together nicely in this new position. Even though she's mostly hidden in her little corner office, she does get out on the hill whenever she can!
